About Kirby Lane

Kirby Lane for hire and public use

Our 107 square meter laneway is available to hire for public and private functions and events.

Kirby Lane is fully fenced and situated at 105 Bridge Street (and 20 New Street) in central Nelson, New Zealand.

We have a self contained toilet block, external power access, and water on site. We have a range of seating available and internal vehicle access available from New Street.

Our space is also open Monday-Friday for the public to stop by, hang out, and relax. It’s a place to interact with others and meet new people—or to simply get out of the office and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine!

Contact us for more information or pop down to one of our upcoming events and experience Kirby Lane for yourself!

Our history

Our laneway’s story began decades ago, historically at 105 Bridge St stood a building, which for 40 years, housed Kirby Carriers, a Nelson family-owned freight company.

In 2013 Galen King—owner and creator of the award-winning coworking space The Bridge Street Collective—purchased the land with the vision of expanding on The Bridge Street Collective’s community inspired space.

Not wanting to loose all connections to the historical aspects of the site, Mr King choose to bring back a small piece of history by re-enlisting the Kirby name, this time under the title of Kirby Lane.

Kirby Lane lives on to bring the vast communities of Nelson together through markets, pop up events, and functions.

With beautifully designed seating—and plenty of space to relax and entertain—we have created a community space for all to enjoy.

We are local, we are community focused, we are Kirby Lane.
